GEORGETOWN, Ky. (AP) — The northbound lanes of Interstate 75 near Georgetown have reopened hours after being closed down so police could gather evidence from a pursuit and fatal shooting.

Kentucky State Police spokesman Ron Turley said officers in Lexington originally responded to a call of shots fired at a gas station and arrived to find an injured female.

He said a short time later police attempted to pull over a vehicle matching the description of one at the scene, but the driver fled along I-75 into Scott County.

When the pursuit ended, he said the male suspect refused to exit the vehicle and pointed a gun at a sheriff's deputy, who fatally shot him.

Turley said investigators spent hours processing the scene for evidence.

He said the wounded woman was in serious condition.
