OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — Longtime newspaper executive Rex Maynor has been named the new publisher of the Opelika-Auburn News.
Maynor, the former publisher of the NewsPress in Stillwater, Okla., has worked in the newspaper industry for 31 years.
Maynor's appointment was announced Thursday in a story published in the Opelika-Auburn News (http://bit.ly/Z1Lh5v).
"We are very excited Rex is joining the staff at the O-A News," said Alan Davis, regional publisher for the World Media Enterprise Alabama Group. "He brings many years of experience, and has a solid background working with community newspapers. He understands the newspaper's role in providing valuable and relevant content."
The Opelika-Auburn News is owned by Berkshire Hathaway's BH Media Group and managed by World Media Enterprises Inc.
Maynor previously served as vice president of sales and marketing for Community Newspaper Holdings Inc., where he worked with newspapers in Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Kentucky.
He replaces former O-A News publisher Jim Whittum, who left the paper last November.
Wynn Christian, vice president of digital media for community newspapers of World Media Enterprises, served as interim publisher after Whittum's departure.
