FLEMINSBURG, Ky. (AP) — Governor Steve Beshear announced that construction work has started on an $8.6 million road project to extend the Flemingsburg Bypass in northern Kentucky.

Beshear said in a press release on Monday that the project will improve traffic and safety by providing an alternate travel route for commercial and through traffic using Kentucky Route 11 and Kentucky Route 57.

Initial work on the project will not affect traffic, but impacts are expected by mid- to late-March at the Route 11 and Cherry Grove Road intersections. Flemingsburg Mayor Marty Voiers said he expects the bypass project will help grow and expand the city.
