LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — If pondering penance and mortality with ashes crossed on your forehead seems a daunting event this Ash Wednesday, try it with a bowl of ice cream.
An Episcopal church in Louisville is offering "Ashes to Go" by taking ashes into the community on Wednesday to mark the beginning of Lent. The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/Z5Y2A9 ) says representatives of St. Thomas Episcopal Church will be at the Comfy Cow and at a Kroger near the church Wednesday afternoon after its traditional Ash Wednesday midday service at the church.
The church's Facebook page says participants in Ash Wednesday services traditionally have their foreheads marked with ashes as a reminder of the shortness of life and of the need to make amends for wrongs committed.
