LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Snow and very cold weather are causing driving problems in Kentucky, where numerous school systems closed for the day and others planned to open late.

In the Louisville area, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reported crews were salting and snowplowing highways, but precipitation was refreezing because of temperatures that were dropping into single digits early Friday.

Roads in northeastern Kentucky remained mostly snow-covered, even though snowplows were operating.

There were traffic accidents attributed to slick roads, including a young man whose car hit a patch of black ice on Ky. 58 and overturned in Graves County in western Kentucky. He was taken to a hospital with injuries not to be deemed life-threatening.
