HICKMAN, Ky. (AP) — Two western Kentucky ferries have ceased operations until strong winds blowing across the state calm down.
The Dorena-Hickman Ferry shut down around 1:30 p.m. CST Wednesday and expected to be closed the rest of the day. The ferry carries traffic across the Mississippi River, connects Kentucky 1354 at Hickman with Missouri Route A and Route 77 near Dorena, Mo.
Capt. Ed Floyd said in a statement from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet that he expects the ferry to be able to reopen Thursday morning.
The Cave-In-Rock Ferry closed down around the same time. The Transportation Cabinet said it would remain closed until winds drop sufficiently.
That ferry connects Kentucky 91 with Illinois Route 1 across the Ohio River between Crittenden County, Ky., and Hardin County, Ill.
