HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Icy roads caused by freezing rain that fell across a wide portion of Kentucky are being blamed in a crash that killed a 5-year-old girl.
The Kentucky New Era (http://bit.ly/13DC5qZ) reports a car carrying Brooklyn Coleman of Hopkinsville crashed Tuesday evening on an icy bridge and the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
Christian County Coroner Dorris Lamb told the newspaper the child's mother, Amber Coleman, lost control of her vehicle on the ice and the child was ejected.
The mother was injured, but a hospital spokesman said she was treated and released.
Meanwhile, the winter weather apparently also caused scattered power outages in areas of the state, and led to some school districts canceling or delaying classes on Wednesday.
