DEANE, Ky. (AP) — A southeastern Kentucky mine has halted production after federal inspectors issued orders that closed the entire underground portion of the mine.

Inspectors with the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration visited TRC Mining Corp.'s No. 2 mine in Letcher County on Nov. 27 and issued 23 citations and seven orders.

Mine operators changed the mine's status to non-producing and submitted a plan to remove equipment from the mine after the inspections. The Mountain Eagle in Whitesburg (http://bit.ly/12YdUUX ) reports that the mine employed 33 and produced 120,000 tons of coal in 2011.

The No. 2 mine was cited for ventilation problems, inadequate roof support, accumulations of combustible material in the mine and other problems.

Inspections of mines around the country by MSHA in November resulted in 285 citations and 11 orders.
