LONDON, Ky. (AP) — Authorities in Laurel County said they saw a drastic drop in meth lab busts in 2012.

In 2011, Laurel County Sheriff John Root said he was taking down meth labs "on a daily basis," 447 to be exact for that year.

The following year, WKYT-TV (http://bit.ly/12QItLZ) reports the number of busts dropped to 48. Root said a big part of the decline was because of hard work and tips from the public.

He said people were made aware of what law enforcement were trying to do through a series of town hall meetings.

"We kinda took the show on the road, and people got involved, and you can see the results," Root said.

He said the county is facing a new challenge, and that's the illegal sell of prescription pills.

"So we're gonna really put our efforts toward that in '13," he said.
