KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The judge who presided over the retrial in which a Kentucky woman was convicted in a young Tennessee woman's killing is aiming for a February sentencing.
Vanessa Coleman of Lebanon, Ky., was convicted in Knoxville earlier this month of facilitation of felony murder.
The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/Y9ukdk ) reported Judge Jon Kerry Blackwood filed a letter in Knox County Criminal Court this week, asking the state and the defense if a Feb. 1 sentencing date would fit into their calendars.
A jury that was chosen in Jackson found Coleman guilty of facilitation in the death of 21-year-old Channon Christian. She and her boyfriend were kidnapped, tortured and killed in 2007. Coleman did not face charges in Christopher Newsom's killing.
She could receive as many as 45 years in prison.
