LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Authorities say a woman who died after being shot at a downtown Louisville party was a Western Kentucky University student.
Jefferson County deputy coroner Eddie Robinson identified the victim as 24-year-old Cheryl Williamson, who was in town for the Thanksgiving weekend.
According to The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/V0eWsh ), Williamson was attending a downtown party when she got into an argument with two men early Sunday morning and was shot in the chest.
The senior was transported to University of Louisville Hospital around 4 a.m. and she died about two hours later.
Deborah Linville-Shivel, a fashion merchandising instructor at Western Kentucky University, said in an email that Williamson was working on a bachelor of interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in social and behavioral sciences.
"I can tell you that Cheryl was well liked by her faculty and peers," Linville-Shivel said. "She was very proud of being a student at WKU."
Louisville Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell said the shooting is being investigated as a homicide.
