HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A longtime western Kentucky senator has conceded his loss in the race for the 3rd District seat.
Democratic Sen. Joey Pendleton told the Kentucky New Era (http://bit.ly/URd70M) that he congratulates Republican Whitney Westerfield, a Hopkinsville attorney, on his win and wishes him "the best of luck" during his service in the legislature.
Pendleton, of Hopkinsville, has served in the Senate for 20 years. A recanvass of votes last week did not change the ballot totals, which showed he lost the seat by 297 votes.
He issued a statement Monday saying it was time to move on and he would not request an official recount.
Westerfield will serve a four-year term that begins in January representing Christian, Todd and Logan counties.
