BEREA, Ky. (AP) — Police in Berea say they've made an arrest in a blaze that destroyed a school for women.
The Richmond Register (http://bit.ly/TNBopY) cited a statement from the Berea Police Department in reporting the arrest of 30-year-old Gary C. Davidson of Louisville on charges of burglary and arson after a nearly yearlong investigation by Kentucky State Police.
The blaze last December gutted the New Opportunity School for Women, which was founded 26 years ago as a way for Appalachian women to become better educated and employed.
After the fire, the school changed its location, but not its mission. Director Lori Silwa said it has been a tough year, but many graduates and new donors have come forward to help.
