NEW YORK (AP) — The death of a 16-year-old who was struck by a highway overpass after he poked his head through a party bus roof highlights the risks that such celebrations can carry.
Authorities say Daniel Fernandez was among 65 teens aboard the double-decker bus Friday on the way to a party in New Jersey. A security guard on the bus operated by Design Limousines tells reporters he had stepped away for a few moments as the bus approached the overpass.
Another private transportation company, Garden State Limousine in New Jersey, offers sweet 16 packages, but manager Joseph Ramsey says "no more party buses." He says that even in a limo, kids open the sunroof "after you tell them not to."
Design Limousines has not returned calls seeking comment.
