CINCINNATI (AP) — A sheriff says investigators believe a man used a tool to beat his 5-year-old niece to death in southern Ohio.
Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward says authorities have the tool they earlier described as a sickle or scythe. But a sheriff's detective says authorities aren't completely certain and are trying to determine the type of tool.
Preliminary autopsy results show Jada Beth Williams suffered from blunt force trauma to the head, neck and face. Ward says her body was found Sunday in a plastic container at the Jackson Township home where she was living with the uncle and her grandmother.
A detective says in a court document that the uncle, 18-year-old Matthew Pierson, admitted killing the girl.
Pierson's bond was set Tuesday at $500,000. His attorney did not return calls.
