COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV) – A Collinsville mother says her 5-year-old son was dropped off at the wrong bus stop on Monday and later found walking alongside a busy ride more than a mile away from home.
Chantel Sells says her son was not even supposed to get on the bus after attending his first day of Kindergarten at Webster Elementary School.
But when she went to pick him up, he was not there.
She was instead told her son accidentally got put on the bus and then got dropped off at the wrong bus stop.
“He was like ‘they just left me,’” recalled Sells. “And I’m like ‘who?’ And he said ‘the bus driver just left me and I was walking by myself.’”
Collinsville School District Superintendent Robert Green said he did not even know what had happened until News 4 contacted him hours later.
“It could have been much worse and we’re thankful the boy was found and is OK,” said Green.
“It could have been just a bad situation,” said Sells. “Just to know that he’s safe, I feel blessed to know that, but at the same time I’m still upset.”
First Student, the bus company involved in the incident, has not returned any calls made by News 4.
