MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a man reported missing in waters off New York's Long Island has gotten a speeding ticket in South Carolina and says he's en route back to New York but hasn't showed up.
New York state park police Capt. Bruce Marx said Thursday Raymond Roth hasn't drowned and isn't dead. But Marx doesn't know Roth's whereabouts.
There's no sign of Roth at his home in Massapequa (mass-uh-PEE'-kwuh), east of New York City.
Roth was reported missing Saturday. His son told authorities they went to Jones Beach and he went swimming but never returned. Police searched for days with no results.
A relative told police Wednesday that Roth was in Florida.
Roth was stopped going 90 mph on a South Carolina highway early Thursday and got a speeding ticket. He told police he was headed back to New York.
