MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Igor is barely moving in the Atlantic off the coast of Africa near the Cape Verde Islands.

Maximum sustained winds for the storm early Thursday are near 40 mph (65 kph). The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm should begin strengthening some on Friday.

Igor has been meandering south of the Cape Verde Islands but is expected to move slowly toward the west-northwest later Thursday.

A tropical storm watch has been issued for the southern Cape Verde Islands.

The storm is located about 70 miles (110 kilometers) south of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands.
