(WHAS11) --  A bizarre trend is making its way around the internet and is quickly spreading across the country -- "beezin."

Beezin involves putting Burt's Bees lip balm on your eyelids to produce a tingling sensation that some who have tried it says adds to the experience of being drunk or high. Other said it helps to keep them alert.

Doctors said peppermint oil in the balm is what causes the sensation.

"The peppermint oil in the lip balm is a very strong irritant and can cause inflammation in the eye, redness of the eye, swelling," Dr. Brett Cauthen, Today Clinic in Oklahoma, said.

Despite being an irritant, doctors said they believe the trend will not cause any long term medical issues because Burt's Bees products are made with natural ingredients.

However, they also said using any product not specifically for your eyes can be dangerous.
