(WHAS11) -- It’s a lifelong connection for two local women who used to work together, then lost touch. Those women, Pam Gersh and Leslie Holland are back together after one came to the rescue.

Leslie donated a kidney for Pam at UK's medical center in Lexington. Pam calls it a miracle.

Last May Pam lost both of her kidneys to Poly Cystic disease. After years of suffering dialysis was the only thing keeping her alive.

And she had so much to live for, her husband Richard and her son Mason now a senior at Manual.

Leslie started to read about Pam's story on Facebook and her need for a kidney. Leslie saw she was O-positive, the same as Pam.

Twenty-one years ago Leslie defied illness and was able to watch her own children grow up, wanting the same thing for Pam.

Pam is now ready to be a wife and mother again thanks to the Leslie's kidney and more importantly her generous heart.
