Venues getting ready for Thunder Over Louisville

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Parlour in Jeffersonville has been pretty busy ever since it opened its doors a little more than a week ago.

"Lines with 10 people out the door from the beer garden on either door, blowing kegs left and right," Parlour bar manager Windy Wonder said.

With warm weather, a nice outdoor seating area and even some cornhole, Wonder and her staff have been staying busy, but with Thunder Over Louisville days away, Wonder and the rest of the staff are preparing for what could be the busiest day in the restaurant's young history.

"I would like to see as many people as we can take in here," Wonder said. "I'd like to see a lot of people having a good time. I'd like to run out of beer."

One of the perks of coming to Parlour's Thunder party, according to Wonder, is its view, situated at the base of the Big Four Bridge.

"When you look off, the bridge walks off right in front of us," she said. "It looks like something in Cape Cod almost or something in Myrtle Beach."

But there are other places along the river like Portage House, which is just a short drive away, that are also offering special programs - and special views - for Thunder over Louisville.

"I've been in Louisville for the past four to five years, and this is probably one of the best spots you can probably get because we're right on the Ohio River," Portage House chef Paul Skulas said.

Skulas said there will be a lot of work in the coming week, with crowds expected to flock to the area for the unimpeded view of the river.

"I could probably throw a football right into the water from here," he said. "It's pretty ridiculous. It is packed wall to wall here."

Parlour will be holding a craft beer festival on April 22 and will be bringing in six regional beer producers. Doors open at 11 a.m. and tickets can be bought at the door for $30. Each ticket is also good for two regional drafts for those 21 and older.

Portage House will be holding a special culinary and viewing experience. Each ticket costs $150 and reserves a seat on the veranda for the entire day. Each ticket also comes with six Connecticut Blue Point Oysters and a glass of Piper-Heidsieck.
