LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A special meeting of the Board of the University of Louisville Foundation called on Labor Day was cancelled just an hour and a half prior. Now the Chairman of the Foundation Board, Dr. Bob Hughes, is clearing up what the plan was for the meeting.
"I think that, well I know what I wanted to do was bring forth a quick resolution to the situation with Dr. Ramsey that is fair to all parties, but again we would not have acted. We would have recommended to the full board of the foundation as to what to do," said Hughes, after the Board of Trustee's Meeting on Friday.
"We were not firing him, no," said Hughes.
When asked if they would have discussed a severance package, Hughes said, "That could have been part of it, again but that would have been basically negotiated, that would have been up to the full board to decide that and I would have put that to a vote."
Hughes would not comment on a figure for the severance package, saying that would be up to the full board.
"There is value in treating someone, you know, fairly, but at the same time too we are sensitive to the funding situation at the university, the state budget cuts and all those things," said Hughes.
Also on the special meeting agenda, a request for proposals for a complete financial examination and audit of the University of Louisville Foundation.
