Thursday marks 10th anniversary of deadly Kentuckiana flooding

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Today marks the 10th anniversary of one of the worst floods Kentuckiana has ever seen.

Six people were killed when a slow-moving storm system brought torrential rains on September 22 and 23, 2006.

The hardest hit areas along the river and to the south saw anywhere from five to nine inches of rain in 48 hours as strong winds brought down trees and powerlines.

The flood was the deadliest since March 1997 when seven people were killed.
