Supporters and critics prepare for Pence's visit

Supporters & critics expected at Pence speech

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- It's been a hectic few days with news of an important guest from Washington making a stop in Kentuckiana.

"We thought we were going to have President Trump," Judy Brown, a Trump supporter, said. "We'll take VP Pence. He's an awesome man too."

Vice President Mike Pence will be making a stop at Harshaw Trane in Jeffersontown, Kentucky on Saturday morning to meet with small business owners and job creators. The meeting is closed to the public, but it will not stop supporters of Trump's administration like Brown from showing up.

"The fact that he's coming here, I'm not quite sure why he picked this spot, but God bless him," she said. "I'm glad he did."

But it won't just be Trump and Pence's supporters in attendance.

"We're really tired of people not paying attention to the public," Dawn Cooley, one of the co-founders of Indivisible Kentucky, said.

Cooley and others from many different groups, including Indivisible Kentucky, Black Lives Matter, Kentuckians for the Commonwealth and the Kentucky Alliance Against Racism and Oppression, will be outside Harshaw Trane too starting at 10 a.m., holding a rally concerning the administration's healthcare plan, which will be one of Pence's talking points.

"There are over 900,000 Kentuckians who could potentially lose their healthcare," Cooley said.

"My dream would be, is that we have nice, peaceful discourse so we can get to a solution," Brown said. "Just fighting is not getting it done."

"Affordable healthcare is a human right and that if you can't choose, if you can't afford your healthcare, then it's not a choice that you can make," Cooley added.

One thing both sides can agree on is the importance of understanding the new healthcare plan and its effect on the American people.

"Honestly I think we all have a real civic duty to do this. Let's find out what it's about," Brown said. "That'll be my nighttime reading tonight for sure."
