Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - With the summer travel season quickly approaching, a lot of people are changing their plans.
With gas just one penny under $4 a gallon, some are planning to take, what some Louisville residents call, a "staycation" this summer.
A “staycation” is when people stay in the city or area they live in and get out there and visit the nearby attractions or things we haven't seen before.
People want to take a summer vacation, but don't want to pay the price to travel far away.
That's where the Louisville Visitors Bureau comes in.
The city relies on its tourism industry, which generates more than $2.5 billion a year.
Gas prices are expected to continue to climb this summer, so even businesses that aren’t feeling the effects now, could in a few weeks.

$4/gallon - cheap -- try paying $9.50/gallon like i do here in germany. i only live 6 miles from work and pay 130 euros a month ($200), time to start riding my bike and walking.
well let me start by saying i pray alot when you have a sick child and have to take him to the drs.i think man kind is to blame for all this and if we put more time into got like we do thiss world then with gods help and the help of each outher we might make it.we live we lurn.but with hope fath and love for each outher and god we can make it.help everything everyone around you that is the way of or god give back love.and for the love of god dont let our kids suffer becuse we are to bizzy fighting teach them to care.and never for get that thr poor needs love to.jesus died for us god gave his only son lets give our god love for that and show him we care the gas and the food is so high that the kids in our country is starveing and its hard to make it with out any help unless we care.
Do your grocery shopping and other errands with friends on the weekend. Two or three friends splitting the cost will help you save money plus give you company.
drive a motorcycle and try not to use my truck for anything except during bad whether
I save up and make as many trips as possible in one day to avoid going out everyday multiple times.
I think its sad that the goverment is allowing the gas prices too get as high as they have. They wanna raise the price on everything including food but yet they dont wanna raise the job pay enough so that we can have just the basic needs. If you work a mim wage job and have too pay daycare by the time you pay for a gallon of gas and one hour of day care that hour of work you just earned is gone !!! It will never change because they arent hurting for the money and there not worried about anyone else having the money too surive as long as they can afford it and have what they want thats all they care about !!!
Bought a motorcycle. It gets 63 MPG.
Drive slower, Shop close to home, Spend less money on fancy items, Dismissed my housekeeper, stop going to the nail salon. Blocked all txt msg from my cell and use this money I saved on gas. So I am not saving $ or GAS, I am just shifing my money to cover my cost.
Gas in East Tennessee this weekend was 3.49 cents this weekend. Is this called price gouging Louisville? You are killing us.
Working 4 day week & consolidating trips for errands, grocery, etc. Eating more at home
Drive a gas saving 4 cylinder car
Stay at home , looking for work close to home !!
I do all my running in one trip and try to narrow it down to one little area. That's how I try to save on gas. I live in Bullitt County and work in St. Matthews, so there really isn't too much I can do to save money there.
Slow down to the speed limit
Lift foot from accelerator earlier to slow down gradually coasting more to a stop. Accelerating more slowly from a stop to cruising speed. Use cruise control whenever safe to do so
Plan and consolidate my trips.
Remove useless weight from trunk (lugging around stuff for nothing)
Look at alternate ways to buy things (internet with free delivery) and whether it is more economical factoring in the cost of gas consumed to buy locally than travel into town for purchases
Keep tires properly inflated
These steps have collectively helped me reduce my gas consumption a little more than 15% with only a little inconvenience.
I just sit at home, if I can't do what I need to do at home than I just don't do it.
I think MORE employers should partially subsidize their employees commute back and forth to work (ie Buses, car or vanpools, allow flextime or working from home where possible). Not only would this ease the financial burden of rising gas prices, and drive done demand, but also be better for the environment. Companies are always saying "We're all in this together", yet I don't see a lot of CEO's, Plant Managers, Hostital Administrators, Judges or Mayors on a TARC Bus lately.
Pre plan shopping and errands to consolidate everything into 1 trip.
Time to return to the "good old days" when most everyone worked, shopped, worshipped, played, and schooled within walking distance of home.
Drive less period.
I don't run to the store anymore if I'm missing an ingredient for a meal I want to cook that night. I simply fix something else or do without. I go without other household items as well (e.g., paper towels, face wash) that I can make due without until I have my long Wal-Mart list.
My boyfriend and I take his car now (better on gas) for trips, and whoever is making a longer drive takes his car.
I'm driving slower, coasting when I see a red light, I got my oil changed, and about to get my tires checked and rotated.
We're spending a lot more time at home.
