Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - With the summer travel season quickly approaching, a lot of people are changing their plans.
With gas at nearly $4 a gallon, some are planning to take, what some Louisville residents call, a "staycation" this summer.
A “staycation” is when people stay in the city or area they live in and get out there and visit the nearby attractions or things we haven't seen before.
People want to take a summer vacation, but don't want to pay the price to travel far away.
That's where the Louisville Visitors Bureau comes in.
The city relies on its tourism industry, which generates more than $2.5 billion a year.
Gas prices are expected to continue to climb this summer, so even businesses that aren’t feeling the effects now, could in a few weeks.

Stay at home , looking for work close to home !!
I do all my running in one trip and try to narrow it down to one little area. That's how I try to save on gas. I live in Bullitt County and work in St. Matthews, so there really isn't too much I can do to save money there.
Slow down to the speed limit
Lift foot from accelerator earlier to slow down gradually coasting more to a stop. Accelerating more slowly from a stop to cruising speed. Use cruise control whenever safe to do so
Plan and consolidate my trips.
Remove useless weight from trunk (lugging around stuff for nothing)
Look at alternate ways to buy things (internet with free delivery) and whether it is more economical factoring in the cost of gas consumed to buy locally than travel into town for purchases
Keep tires properly inflated
These steps have collectively helped me reduce my gas consumption a little more than 15% with only a little inconvenience.
I just sit at home, if I can't do what I need to do at home than I just don't do it.
I think MORE employers should partially subsidize their employees commute back and forth to work (ie Buses, car or vanpools, allow flextime or working from home where possible). Not only would this ease the financial burden of rising gas prices, and drive done demand, but also be better for the environment. Companies are always saying "We're all in this together", yet I don't see a lot of CEO's, Plant Managers, Hostital Administrators, Judges or Mayors on a TARC Bus lately.
Pre plan shopping and errands to consolidate everything into 1 trip.
Time to return to the "good old days" when most everyone worked, shopped, worshipped, played, and schooled within walking distance of home.
Drive less period.
I don't run to the store anymore if I'm missing an ingredient for a meal I want to cook that night. I simply fix something else or do without. I go without other household items as well (e.g., paper towels, face wash) that I can make due without until I have my long Wal-Mart list.
My boyfriend and I take his car now (better on gas) for trips, and whoever is making a longer drive takes his car.
I'm driving slower, coasting when I see a red light, I got my oil changed, and about to get my tires checked and rotated.
We're spending a lot more time at home.
I keep my car's tune up good and I use fuel injector cleaner. Plus when the wheather permits I use my motorcycle
" The LOVE of money is the root of all evil (1 Tim 6:10. These men and women who are in "absolute power" over the world's energy resources have no intention of giving up that power. Like alcoholism, absolute power is addictive. In fact, the Bible teaches that there are some men who "cannot sleep unless they cause some to fall (Pr 4:16)". It is no longer about money but having control of that power."
YEAK OK,until the U.S. Public demands our goverment do something, nothing will chang,as log as their are right wing religious oilmen in office, nothing will change period,STAND UP AMERICA STOP BLAMING EVERYONE ELSE AND MAKE A STAND ALREADY
I have not driven since 2004.
If you live in the country.....Call Tarc and see if they would run to Shelby, Oldham, if not. What ever happen to the train trolley from back in the day. Now that my friends is a good question. The horse and carriage, yep sounds like a plan. The Quakers are sure enough laughing at us.
I love the Privilege of paying more to help Caribou and Gulf coast view. I love the vista of flat water but we must kill any aligator or shark that is sighted. 950,000 Alaskan caribou walking around, but we shoot every deer, elk, goose, duck to improve the species. I love paying lots for gas, don't you?
This needs to stop. The government needs to put a cap on gas prices NOW!!!
...........
I think it is sad that gas prices have to get this high for people to change their overly consumptious habits. Everyone should have been walking, biking, moving closer to work, whatever all along. The US demand on fuel really hasn't decreased much at all so do you think the price will ever go back down? I doubt it. Our greedy and spoiled US society is really the only thing to blame. One of the big reasons everyone hates the USA.
A few years ago, I moved to a place very near my work. Now I walk or bike to work many days. Not only does it save gas plus wear-and-tear on the car, but it's great exercise and improves mental health. My job is a pressure cooker of stress, so the 'down time' of walking is welcome relief.
Why don't you spend more time telling people about the good things going on in the country that always stresing the gas prices. Have you notice that we have not been attacked since 9/11 and in my line of work it is booming in the service industry with record profits. Report that!!!!!
i think the government should send out gas cards as well as the rebate checks for everyone who has a vehicle registered in their name to help out on the gas prices ..
