Coach Rick Pitino opens door for Derrick Caracter's return to the U of L basketball team

Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - University of Louisville basketball Coach Rick Pitino has opened the door for Derrick Caracter’s return to the team.
Sources have confirmed to WHAS11’s Kyle Draper that Coach Pitino contacted Caracter late last week and offered him the opportunity to return to the team for the 2009-2010 season.
He would have to sit out the upcoming season and have to pay his own way, because there are no scholarships available for him.
Caracter, who just completed his sophomore season, is open to the idea of returning. At the end of last semester WHAS11 News learned he was academically ineligible but he’s been working this summer to get his grades up.
Coach Pitino has not commented on this matter. According to Kenny Klein, Sports Information Director at UofL, Pitino is in Los Angeles for the ESPY awards.
