Bush to give award to Fort Campbell soldier

05:08 PM EST on Sunday, November 23, 2008

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) -- During a visit next week, President George W. Bush will present an award to a wounded soldier who has worked to improve the lives of Fort Campbell families whose relatives were also injured.

The White House said that on Tuesday, Bush will give the President's Volunteer Service award to Army Staff Sgt. Josh Forbess, who was injured in 2003 when a Black Hawk helicopter he was in collided with another in Mosul, Iraq.

During his recovery, his wife lived in a Fisher House, which is a furnished home near a medical center where military families can stay while a loved one is receiving care.

Forbess now works as a volunteer at the Fisher House at Fort Campbell, where he leads Wounded Warrior meetings and serves as a mentor to combat-injured veterans.
