National Tobacco to move production to Owensboro
11:19 AM EDT on Saturday, September 6, 2008
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP/WHAS11) -- National Tobacco Co. plans to move its production operations out of Louisville to Owensboro.
The company announced Friday that by the end of next year it will no longer manufacture and distribute loose-leaf tobacco products in Louisville. National Tobacco says the facility is outdated and operates under capacity.
Around 200 people work at that location—half in manufacturing and half in corporate.
Officials say the manufacturing jobs will go away, but the corporate staff jobs will stay in Louisville.
