Stripped of authority: Strip club expenditures lead to Lexington airport chairman resignation

03:58 PM EST on Wednesday, January 7, 2009

(WHAS11) - Six top officials at Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport will no longer have credit cards issued by the board after they racked up thousands at a Texas strip club.

The board chairman told the Lexington Herald Leader that the credit cards would be canceled and out of state travel isn’t allowed until an audit.

Executive Director Michael Gobb resigned last week after it was revealed he spent more than $200,000 on travel and other expenses in two years.

The board says Gobb was among those at the 2003 strip club outing but wouldn’t say who else was involved.

No new board members will be appointed during the investigation.

Now the Urban County council is asking the airport chairman to resign.

The Lexington Herald Leader reported the council unanimously requested the resignation of Bernard Lovely.

Lovely has been the head of the airport since executive director Michael Gobb resigned last week.

Gobb and others were reportedly involved using airport money to fund a trip to a Texas strip club.

The state auditor is reviewing airport finances.
