LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Thousands of Elk will converge on Louisville this week, but drivers need not worry that they’ll create a traffic hazard.
It’s the human type of Elk and their 107th Grand Lodge and 103rd Grand Temple will be in convention. The Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks is one of the world’s largest black fraternal organizations.
Louisville Chairman James Ray says the main objective of the Elks is to dispense charity to those who are less fortunate. He says ten-thousand delegates from all 50 states and five countries, including Canada and Mexico, are expected to attend the Elks’ biggest event of the year. The convention runs from Friday through August fourth.
