Athiests take on Kentucky's Department of Homeland Security
08:04 PM EST on Tuesday, December 2, 2008
(WHAS11) - A group of atheists wants God removed from Kentucky’s homeland security detail.
American Atheists Inc. filed the suit in Frankfort today, claiming Kentucky violated the constitution by enacting a law in 2006 that stresses God’s role in protecting the state.
The group’s attorney is upset that the law states that a plaque be posted saying the safety of the state “cannot be achieved apart from reliance upon almighty God.”
Kentucky Homeland Security director wouldn’t comment on the suit.
