05:15 PM EST on Tuesday, December 2, 2008
(WHAS11) - A 15-year-old is now facing a felony charge after the freshman brought a loaded gun to Valley High School Tuesday morning.
The incident happened shortly before 9 a.m. at Valley High School.
Faculty members were told by students that a freshman boy had brought a gun to school to sell or trade.
The boy was confronted in the hallway by faculty and the school resource officer, but he refused to be searched and ran out the door.
The police officer chased him, called for back up, and the boy was caught about a quarter of a mile away. Authorities found a loaded .22 caliber handgun in his pocket.
The school was not placed in lockdown because of the speed at which the incident went off-campus.
The student is suspecded indefinitely and is charged with a felony.
