Kragthorpe leaving?
11:56 AM EST on Wednesday, November 21, 2007
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - It seems like everyone has an opinion on the job that Louisville football coach Steve Kragthorpe is doing. But now the intense scrutiny may be what pushes him out the door.
University of Louisville sports information director Rocco Gasparro tells me that there is a fifty-fifty chance that Kragthorpe would leave Louisville for the vacant head-coaching job at Southern Methodist University.
While SMU has not contacted Kragthorpe or Athletic Director Tom Jurich about the open job, Gasparro says that Coach Kragthorpe is concerned at what the scrutiny is doing to his family and players. At 5-6, the Cards are having a down year, which has outraged some fans.
But according to Gasparro, Jurich has assured Kragthorpe that he wants him to stay as coach and that he’ a hundred percent behind him. Gasparro says he expects Kragthorpe to stay at Louisville, and that if he did want the Southern Methodist University job he could have it by just making a phone call.
