07:42 PM EDT on Thursday, August 28, 2008

An active case of tuberculosis has been confirmed in Harrison County, Indiana.

The person is being treated with medication, but is still considered to be in an active stage, which means that person is still infectious.

The treatment course takes numerous months before the infected person goes into the latent stage.

This person did expose several people in Harrison County, but the Public Health Coordinator there says they have been tested and are fine.

There is no word on where the person came into contact with the highly contagious disease.
