Cheap gas or cheap trick?
07:16 AM EDT on Friday, August 18, 2006
One candidate's offer of cheap gas to voters has brought a complaint from his opponent.
Kentucky Congressman Ron Lewis has asked federal prosecutors to investigate Democrat Mike Weaver.
Lewis believes Weaver's campaign broke federal vote buying laws.
Weaver offered gas to Hardin County motorists for a $1.20 a gallon, instead of the usual $2.76.
Weaver's campaign paid the difference. Lewis says that's illegally influencing voters with cheap gas.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's Office wouldn't say whether they'll investigate the complaint.
