Paternity test determines elephant's poppa

12:40 PM EDT on Monday, June 11, 2007

Just in time for Father’s Day: Scotty, the baby elephant at the Louisville Zoo, now knows who his father is.

It's Jackson, a 28-year-old African elephant from the Pittsburgh Zoo.

Jackson: Paul A. Selvaggio/Pittsburgh Zoo; Scotty: Robert Kemnitz/Louisville Zoo

Can you see the family resemblance? Jackson (left) is the father of Scotty, the Louisville Zoo's new elephant.

Paternity was determined through DNA testing since Scotty’s mother was artificially inseminated.

The zoo says Jackson has fathered the most calves in the United States, with six offspring.

Two more are on the way at the Pittsburgh Zoo.
