Bill Clinton stops motorcade and gives to WHAS Crusade for Children

09:31 AM EDT on Friday, May 16, 2008

WHAS11 coverage

The Southeast Bullitt Firefighters got quite a surprise tonight while out in the rain to raise money for the WHAS Crusade for Children.

They were collecting just off of I-65 near the Bullitt County Fairgrounds, when they noticed three state troopers go through a light; then saw President Clinton’s motorcade.

One firefighter says the light was green, but the first vehicle slammed on its brakes.  He says he thought something had happened, but what happened is that President Clinton wanted to make a donation.

Butler tells us his chief told the volunteers they would be rewarded for collecting money out in the rain and Butler says, indeed they were.
