Police: DUI crash claims lives of twins

12:17 PM EDT on Monday, May 7, 2007

An Illinois man faces two murder charges after a horrible accident the morning after the Kentucky Derby.

Brian Daviston is charged with killing twin Louisville brothers after he was driving the wrong way on the interstate -- police say he was drunk.

Metro Police still don't know how Daviston got on Interstate 64 going the wrong way early Sunday morning, crashing into a car with twin brothers inside.

The twins, Garry and Terry Crenshaw, were killed in the crash.

It happened between the Ninth Street and 22nd Street exits on I-64 near downtown Louisville. Police say Daviston was drunk and driving east in the westbound lane when he collided with the Crenshaw’s car.

We checked with the state of Illinois and found Daviston has no alcohol-related violations on his driving record. He's in fair condition at University Hospital today.

As for the Crenshaw brothers, they lived on a tree-lined street in west Louisville. The 40-year-old twins were described by neighbors as quiet but friendly when out with their pets or working in the yard.

The Stratton Avenue neighbors were stunned that an ordinary existence could come to such a sudden terrible end. Funeral arrangements for the Crenshaws are pending.

The alleged drunk driver, Brian Daviston, has not been arraigned on murder, assault, wanton endangerment and DUI charges yet, because he's still in the hospital.
