Possible Northup vs. Yarmuth rematch

05:10 PM EST on Wednesday, January 16, 2008

Could former congresswoman Anne Northup have one more run in her?

WHAS11’s Mark Hebert has learned that Northup is considering a run for her old congressional seat. Once again taking on John Yarmuth.

There was plenty of speculation that Anne Northup might be done with statewide politics after losing her second race in a row, her defeat in the governor’s race last year.  But Northup’s still got plenty of support in Louisville and it sounds like she might try to ride that support back to Washington:

Anne Northup looks well rested and sounds like she’s excited about the possibility of running to get back her old 3rd district seat in congress:

Northup is considering a potential rematch with democratic congressman John Yarmuth after getting a surprise from the man she was supporting in the race.  But friend and former federal prosecutor Erwin Roberts has been notified that he’s about to be called up to active duty in the army reserves, essentially dooming his run for congress and leaving republicans looking for someone to challenge the freshman congressman, Yarmuth:

Northup says she loved her five terms in congress and misses the policy debates.   A spokesman for Yarmuth says the congressman is surprised by Northup’s interest in the race “but that’s what you get with a professional politician...they keep running no matter how many times voters reject them.

Northup says if some other republican steps up to run against Yarmuth, she won’t.  A major in the Kentucky air national guard, Todd Lally, says he’s considering the congressional race and will talk to Northup to find out her plans.
