State agencies create #FinishStrong challenge to encourage seatbelt safety

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Police are looking for fans of both UofL and UK to show their team spirit while helping to reduce highway deaths during the holidays.

Representatives from Kentucky State Police, The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety and Kentucky Farm Bureau say they are giving away free red or blue t-shirts to the first 1,000 fans who arrive with their seatbelts fastened at Kroger Field in Lexington on Nov. 22 between 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Officials say the shirts will have the special message #FinishStrong (Kentucky/Louisville) – Never Miss A Game – Buckle Up.

The effort is to encourage drivers in not only both cities but the entire state to buckle their seatbelts to save lives.

“A seat belt is the easiest, most efficient way to save lives on our roadways, yet we continually see far too many drivers and passengers not buckling up,” Dr. Noelle Hunter, Kentucky Office of Highway Safety, said in a news release.

The highest fan turnout will win friendly bragging rights before the annual Governor’s Cup featuring the Louisville Cardinals and Kentucky Wildcats on Nov. 25.
