Shawnee student grazed by bullet while shielding infant

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A 17-year-old student at the Academy at Shawnee was grazed by a bullet while shielding a baby from gunfire inside a vehicle.

The baby was not injured and the student is recovering.

"I was screaming my baby, my baby, and he put himself in that predicament to lean over my baby and save my baby because if it wasn't for him doing that it probably would've been my baby,” Maranda Dillon, the driver of the vehicle, said.

Police say when the student left school yesterday afternoon he was picked up by Dillon, the baby’s mother.

After leaving the school they got into a fender bender. When the mom drove off she says someone started shooting at them.

They say they did not get a good look at the shooter.

Police have not made an arrest.
