Senate OK's measure for Delta Queen to travel

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Could we soon see the Delta Queen in the city?

The popular, authentic steamboat visited often and her return as a cruise ship may be getting closer.

The Queen is docked in Chattanooga, Tennessee where it serves as a hotel.

On Monday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to exempt the Delta Queen from a law prohibiting ships made mostly of wood from carrying passengers overnight.

The Delta Queen has special ties to Louisville.

For decades, the Queen and the Belle of Louisville would take to the Ohio River the week before the Kentucky Derby for the Great Steamboat Race.

The bill now goes to the House.
