LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A proclamation is set to be read next week honoring the life of a West Louisville woman who passed away almost one year ago.
Angela Newby Bouggess is the mother of Michael Newby--the man shot and killed by former LMPD detective Mackenzie Mattingly in January of 2004.
Newby Bouggess passed away from an illness in March of last year.
A proclamation sponsored by District 1 Councilwoman Jessica Greene will be read at this Thursday's Metro Council meeting.
Newby Bouggess helped establish the Hood 2 Hood movement. The proclamation calls her an advocate for peace and justice representing the voices that are often unheard.
Family and others will be in attendance at Thursday’s meeting.
