Police plan to step up presence during annual Juice Bowl

LMPD announces plans to keep Juice Bowl event safe

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Plans and security were unveiled for this year’s Juice Bowl, a holiday event in Shawnee Park that ended in gunfire last Thanksgiving.

The Juice Bowl is particularly known for celebrating the accomplishments of youth football leagues and a time where community members gather and catch up on old times.

The shooting made national headlines after two people were killed and several others shot.

Metro Police say there will be a visible police presence during the event.

Due to the construction at the back of the park, there will be no racing in the park. Officers will be posted in that area to keep traffic flowing in the event emergency vehicles need to get in and out of the park.

King Solomon Baptist Church will hold a reflection ceremony Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. to not only look back at last year’s events but offer encouragement for festivities this year.

A balloon release will also take place Thanksgiving Day at 11 a.m.
