Passport and Evolent Health partner to create Medicaid Center of Excellence in Louisville

Major announcement concerning Passport

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Passport Health Plan and Evolent Health have formed a new alliance to create what they are calling the Medicaid Center of Excellence.  The new partnership is the first of its kind in the country and will be based in Louisville.

Representatives from Passport say you will not see much of a change in your individual plan but Louisville will see a big economic impact, with the addition of more than 600 new jobs.

"Louisville has got more companies headquartered here in the lifelong wellness and aging care space than any other city in the country which means great jobs so today's announcement by Evolent means more jobs and more of a reputation around the world that we're a center if you want to be involved in health care," said Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.

The Medicaid Center of Excellence combines Passport's Medicaid managed care with Evolent's technology to offer centralized services nationwide.

"Take all the things that are happening here that are good and export those to other states where there are providers that want to have their own provider-led Medicaid plan and there are lots of those that exist around the country," said Seth Blackley, President of Evolent Health.

In addition to new jobs, the alliance plans to keep all 500 employees currently at Passport.  Mayor Fischer says the new partnership will also mean additional tax revenue.

Passport will keep its headquarters in south Louisville and representatives from the company say people enrolled in the healthcare plan will not see any major changes.

"The service and the team and the ID card and all the things you experience day to day, the physicians you see, no change, if you're chronically ill or you have a lot of conditions and you're sick, you may notice increased coordination, it should be good for you in terms of helping you navigate the system," said Blackley.

Passport will continue to operate as a Kentucky-based nonprofit with its own Board of Directors.
