Oldham teen recovering from brain injury helps with first pitch

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – An Oldham County teen recovering from a traumatic brain injury returned to the baseball diamond Saturday.

Tristan Ballinger got on the baseball mound to help throw the first pitch at a Little League opening ceremony.

Last November, Ballinger was injured in a sword accident.

Before that tragic incident, the high schooler was on the wrestling and baseball teams.

The accident put him in a coma for several weeks and to this day, he's continuing his therapy.

His family says appearing at the little league game was a step in the right direction.

“It was great – I know he wishes he could have thrown the ball now he's having some issues with his muscles. It was great it brought back a lot of fond memories,” Tristan’s father Mike Ballinger said.

Ballinger's family has filed a 60-million dollar lawsuit against the company, "Top Swords".

The lawsuit says the company was negligent in its manufacturing and marketing of the sword.
