NICU babies receive handmade hats

150 babies in the NICU at Norton Children's Hospital will receive these handmade hats.

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – One-hundred and fifty babies in the NICU at Norton Children's Hospital will receive handmade hats.

AJ Tyler started making these hats when her son Owen had to spend time in the NICU. She noticed another mother in the same situation but alone. Tyler says she wanted to give her a few minutes of happiness with a hat.

“I understand what that you have to fight for, your child, and being here, some are here for months and unfortunately I've made hats for children who haven't made it and so it’s that connection between me and families. Keep coming back every year making these hats for these families,” Tyler said.

By now she's made 250 hats for newborns, toddlers and even older children. She brought them on Thursday, Nov. 17, to coincide with Norton Children’s Hospital Radiothon

Alpha Media is helping raise money for Norton Children's Hospital until 7 p.m. Thursday. The stations are interviewing families and children who have received, or are currently receiving, care at the Hospital.
