More than 100 pounds of marijuana found during traffic stop

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- Around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, an Indiana State Police trooper in the Drug Enforcement Section stopped a Toyota minivan for speeding on I-70 East. The officer discovered the driver and passenger were transporting more than 100 pounds of marijuana in garbage bags and luggage.

The trooper said he became suspicious of the story told by the driver, Tong Pan, and the passenger, Liandi Zhang. He could also smell a strong odor of marijuana and dryer sheets.

A search of the vehicle found several shrink-wrapped packages of marijuana. The estimated weight is around 120 pounds total.

The driver and his passenger claimed they were on their way to Virginia from California. Both were placed under arrest and taken to the Marion County Jail.
