Leaders express frustration over Walmart deal

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Several Metro Council members voiced frustration Sunday over the failed Walmart deal for west Louisville.

Council members from several districts met at the site of the proposed project at 18th and Broadway in the Russell neighborhood.

Friday, the mega-retailer said it was ending their plans to bring a store to the empty lot.

The council members who represent the area say they are fed up and frustrated with the lack of economic development coming to west Louisville.

“There is a tax in this city on the lives of people if you are poor and/or black but especially if you live west of 9th Street,” District 1 Councilwoman Jessica Green said.

Councilmembers said they would like to see more developments in west Louisville that are seen in downtown Louisville and areas east.

They would also like to see businesses receive more incentives for projects in west Louisville.
