LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A day after a man’s arrest in connection with the murder of a man found dead in an Appleton Lane apartment in Shively last month, loved ones are speaking out.
Dion Cummings, 23, is charged with murder and robbery in connection to 34-year-old Joseph Key’s death.
Police found Key’s body inside his apartment Aug. 21.
Investigators say Cummings and another suspect planned to take heroin from Key and he was shot during a struggle.
Key’s ex-girlfriend Tarisha Calvin says Cummings’ arrest is giving Key’s loved ones some peace.
“I think a lot of us now are just able to rest. We’re able to smile again. We’re able to talk about it without being upset – well, I’m saying anger because we still cry. I still have my moments,” she said.
Loved ones say they’re thankful to the detectives who continue to work on Key’s case.
Police say they do expect to make more arrests in connection with his murder.
Cummings is expected to appear in court Sep. 12.
